How GameGu works
A quick guide to what GameGu is and how to make the most of it.
GameGu connects people who want to swap physical console video games, temporarily or permanently, with other people near them. It isn't a shop or a middleman: it just helps you find each other.
1. Add your collection
From "Add game" you search for the title in the catalogue, choose the platform and decide how you offer it: as a temporary loan, as a permanent swap, or both at once. The first time you upload a game we ask for your approximate location — without it nobody can find you on the map.2. Discover games near you
On Home you see the games available in your area: filter by platform or search radius, and search by title. The map shows where you are and who has games nearby.3. Propose a swap
When you find a game you're interested in, you propose a swap by offering one of yours in exchange. The other person can accept, decline or suggest another game from their collection.4. Meet in person
GameGu doesn't ship or handle the physical game — you two agree on where and when to hand it over. Choose a public place and check the condition of the game when you meet.5. Rate each other
After the swap, you can both rate each other with stars and a comment — that reputation stays visible on each person's profile for future swaps.Temporary loan vs. permanent swap
Temporary loan: you lend your game for a while and get it back at the end.
Permanent swap: you trade your game for another one, for good.
Each game's rating
The number in the hexagon is the game's rating on IGDB (Internet Game Database), from 0 to 100: an average of critics' and players' scores. It's set automatically when the game is added and it's the same for everyone. It's for information only: it doesn't indicate the game's price or affect any proposal. If a game doesn't have an IGDB rating yet, you'll see «—».Your location and your privacy
Only an approximate location is stored, with a deliberately large margin of error (up to 2 km), so that nobody can work out your exact address from your collection. It's only requested once, when you add your first game, and you can turn it on later from there if you declined the first time.Safety tips
Always meet in a busy public place, preferably during the day. If something goes wrong, you can report or block any user from their profile.
